BA BA BA BABANANA

There is nothing else about this movie out at the moment yet I’m very weirdly excited to see it.

It certainly doesn’t help that the song gets stuck in my head all the time.

Graduation!

Well, I am now finally and officially done with college. I walked last night. It was really interesting how different high school and college graduations are.

Top 5 Favorite Classes in College

I just finished up my last class of my college career last week. I thought it might be nice to reflect on the classes that I enjoyed as a way to ‘celebrate’. The classes are in no particular order.

1. Children’s Literature

I think this really sealed the deal on me wanting to somehow work with kids/young adult literature as a career. We had a lot of fun assignments. Every week we had to read. For half the semester we read 4 picture/easy reader books a week and the other half of the semester we read a chapter book/novel a week. We wrote our own Frog and Toad story. We made our own picture books. I loved everything about it. Definitely a great way to earn an ‘A’.

New Blog

I’ve decided to start a book blog! I read quite a bit normally so I thought I’d put my reading to good use. http://thecheapreader.wordpress.com/

Don’t worry, I’ll still use this blog as a place to put all of my ridiculous stories.

My nerd meter hits a new high

Or maybe a low?

I never really pay attention to how “nerdy” I can be unless it’s staring me in my face. Then I have that lovely realization of “Oh I guess I’m that girl.” Today was one of those days.

Tonight at midnight, summer classes open for registration. Over the last 4 years, I’ve loved looking at all the classes and trying to figure out what I was going to take that semester. I always thought it was fun [nerd strike 1]. I can no longer do that. I only have 2 classes left so I really have no choice about what to take. To avoid working on homework, I decided to look through the course catalog.

Over the past year, I’ve become really fascinated with Ancient Greece/Rome. Seriously, all of it is so interesting. I’ve been known to come out of my HBO Rome class and spend way too much time reading up about Ancient Roman history on Wikipedia.  So naturally I was looking up what the Classics department has to offer. I had no idea we had Latin classes. All afternoon I’ve been thinking about how cool it would be to learn Latin [nerd strike 2] and wondering if I could have taken that instead of Spanish. I still think it would interesting to learn but close to useless because no one speaks Latin anymore. Maybe I’ll get some books on it after I’m out of school. [If I end up with a job in a library, I will be getting so many books on the topic, haha]

This afternoon, my friend posted on Facebook about us going out-of-town this summer to see Harry and the Potters. Yep, Harry and the Potters, a wizard rock band based on the Harry Potter series [nerd strike 3]. I don’t think I’ll be able to do it because of summer school but this is definitely something I would be down to do.  I will defend what little “coolness” I have left by saying that I really don’t listen to them and have only listened to them when my friend and I go to Harry Potter book or movie premiers.

Sadly, this is what my life has become. No wonder I’m still single.

This is something that has always bothered me

I’ve heard it said time and time again over my life that college is supposedly “the best years of your life.” Now as I’m drawing closer to the end of my college days, I’m thinking about it more often. Surely, this can’t be true, right? How in the world is 4 years of listening to “Oh man, I got soooo drunk this weekend. I can’t remember what happened that night” and “Yeah, I’d totally hit that” weekly and working on stupid assignments all the time the best years of my life? I’m sure things might be different if I had been more outgoing but I have never been outgoing. These past 4 years have been the longest of my life and I’m in for a long freaking life if this was as good as it gets.

Another thing that is depressing is I had a teacher tell me a while back that college is the easiest and best time to date because you see so many people daily. After college it’s hard to meet people because most of the people you interact with are the people you work with and those relationships are really tricky. I really hope this isn’t the case because if it is then I am almost definitely going to be an old cat lady. I haven’t been on a date since high school and I can could on one hand the number of guys that have been interested in me over the last 4 years.

So what do you think? Is college really the best time of your life or does it get better after? I’m really interested to hear from those who are already done with school.

Thursday Tea (March 3)

Thursday Tea is a weekly(-ish) meme hosted by Anastasia. To play along, all you need is a cup of tea, the book you’re currently reading, and the answers to the following questions: what tea are you drinking (and do you like it)? What book are you reading (and do you like it)? Tell us a little about your tea and your book, and whether or not you think the two go together.

The book: I’m currently reading The Demigod Files. I’m enjoying it so far but then again I absolutely love the Percy Jackson books. It’s a really easy read (which I need right now with school) because it only contains 3 short stories and little things like interviews with the characters.

The tea: I’m drinking some Earl Grey Lavender tea. It’s pretty good. The tea bags smell very lavender-y but the tea doesn’t taste very lavender-y. I only taste Earl Grey but that might be because I’m congested and can’t smell very well.

Do they go together? Not really. I usually think of Earl Grey as calm and mellow. Percy Jackson books are never calm and mellow. They are really action packed and there’s never a dull moment.

What’s your Thursday Tea?

If you’d like to participate, please feel free to use the image in your own post! Here’s a code for it; just copy-paste it into your own Thursday Tea post.
